Privacy Policy
Version 2026-10-11 · Effective October 11, 2026
This policy explains what the RigMap iPhone app and the rigmap.co website collect, why, who it is shared with, how long it is kept, and your rights. It applies in the United States and Canada, including under Canada's PIPEDA, Québec's Law 25, and US state privacy laws such as California's CCPA/CPRA.
The short version
- No account. RigMap doesn't ask for your email, phone number or password to use the app.
- Your location is used to show the map, find places and give truck routes and turn-by-turn directions.
- Most of what RigMap keeps (your truck profile, trips, hours, receipts, résumé, saved places, AI chats and the diagnostic log) stays on your phone.
- What you choose to send (reports, Co-Pilot sharing, AI questions) goes to RigMap's servers or the providers listed below, only to make that feature work.
- We don't sell or share your personal information for advertising. RigMap has no ads and no advertising or analytics trackers, and doesn't track you across other companies' apps or websites.
Who is responsible
[OWNER TO FILL: legal name and mailing address of the business] operates RigMap. Privacy officer (the person responsible for personal information under PIPEDA and Québec Law 25): [OWNER TO NAME], reachable at support@rigmap.ca.
What the app collects and why
Location (precise)
- What: your GPS position, speed and direction. While you are navigating, the app keeps using location in the background so guidance keeps working (iPhone shows the blue location indicator). RigMap asks only for "While Using the App" permission.
- Why: show where you are, find nearby stops and places, calculate truck routes, give turn-by-turn guidance, show warnings ahead, weather and traffic on your route.
- Where it goes: most is processed on your phone. To calculate a route, your start point, stops, destination and (when re-routing) current position are sent to our servers. Points along your route are sent to weather and traffic data providers (directly or through our servers) and to our route-safety service. When you search, your approximate position is sent with the search so results are nearby.
Truck profile and settings
- What: truck height, weight, length, width, axles, hazmat classes, preferences, and (optional) your name, company and truck number in your driver profile.
- Why: make routes legal for your truck; fill your own documents.
- Where it goes: stored on your phone. Truck dimensions and hazmat classes are included in route requests to our servers. Your name, company and truck number are not sent with routes.
Searches
- What: addresses, businesses and places you type or say.
- Where it goes: to the map and place-search providers that return results, together with your approximate position.
Reports you choose to send
- What: parking status, weigh-station status, diesel price, ratings, road reports (accident, hazard, closure, construction, low clearance, no-truck road and others) with an optional note, truck entrances, bad-routing marks and facility reviews.
- Why: show other drivers what's happening.
- Where it goes: stored in our cloud database with the location of the report and shown to other drivers. Reports are not tied to your name. To stop spam and duplicate reports, a one-way code made from a random app ID is stored with road reports.
- How long: short-lived reports disappear from the app after a set time (for example accidents after 1 hour, parking full after 4 hours, closures after 6 hours, construction after 7 days, low clearance and no-truck reports after 90 days). Report records and combined results (such as average ratings) may be kept longer to improve RigMap.
Saved cameras
- What: the list of cameras you star and a random app ID. Your name is not sent.
- Why: keep your saved cameras in sync.
- Where it goes: our cloud database.
Co-Pilot (live trip sharing)
- Only when you turn it on and agree on the Co-Pilot consent screen.
- What: depending on the level you choose: your live position, direction and speed; destination name, distance and time remaining; next turn and route line; messages and map pins between you and your Co-Pilot; with Full Assist, what RigMap screens you are on and the actions your Co-Pilot takes for you (your profile is never shared).
- Who sees it: only people who have your code, and RigMap's systems that run the session.
- Where it goes: our cloud database.
- How long: while you share. When sharing stops (you tap Stop, arrive, or after 12 hours), your location is removed from the shared trip. Messages you report are sent to RigMap for review.
AI features (Agent, RigMap IQ, picture maker)
- What: the words you type or say to the agent, recent conversation turns, the date and time, whether you are moving or navigating, your unit setting, document text you choose to give the agent, picture requests, and for RigMap IQ, your route details. A random app ID is sent so each phone gets a fair daily share.
- Where it goes, in this order:
- Our own AI servers.
- On your phone, if you installed the optional offline AI pack.
- RigMap does not send your AI questions to any third-party AI company. If neither can answer, the app uses its built-in rule book.
- Don't tell the AI assistant sensitive information such as health details, ID numbers, bank details or passwords.
- Your location is not sent as part of the assistant's context. Pictures you make stay on your phone unless you share them.
Voice
- What: your voice when you tap the microphone or use voice commands.
- Where it goes: converted to text by your iPhone's built-in speech recognition, which may process audio on Apple's servers under Apple's privacy policy. The text is then handled like typed text. RigMap doesn't keep voice recordings.
- Voice prompts are spoken by your iPhone or played from recorded voice clips stored in the app. Updated clip packs download from our servers; nothing about you is sent except a normal web request.
Camera and photos
- What: photos or scans you choose to take or pick: fuel receipts, dispatch sheets, bills of lading, addresses.
- Where it goes: text is read on your phone. Images stay on your phone. If you then ask the agent about the document, its text may be handled as described under AI features.
Jobs
- What: your job search words and area; carrier names or DOT numbers you look up.
- Where it goes: our servers, which ask job boards and public carrier-safety records for results. Your job profile, résumé and cover letters are made and kept on your phone. RigMap never sends an application: you choose to email or share it yourself.
- Notifications: if you turn on job alerts, iPhone shows local notifications. RigMap doesn't use push-notification servers for this.
App usage count
- What: once a day at most, a random install ID, app version, iPhone model, iOS version and counts of how many times paid map and search services were used over the last 3 days.
- Why: count active phones and control service costs. It contains no location, searches or personal details.
- Where it goes: our servers.
Hours, IFTA, receipts, trips, waiting time, saved places
Stored only on your phone, unless you choose to export or share them (for example a PDF by email).
Diagnostic log
RigMap keeps a navigation log on your phone to troubleshoot problems. It includes locations and app events. It stays on your phone and is never uploaded automatically. You choose whether to share it with us.
Technical data every online request includes
Like any app, requests to our servers and providers include your IP address and basic device information. Traffic-camera images and video load directly from the transportation agencies' servers, which see your IP address.
Legal basis and consent
We rely on your consent (the I Agree screen, iPhone permission prompts, and the Co-Pilot consent screen), on what is needed to provide the features you ask for, and on our legitimate interest in keeping RigMap safe, working and affordable. You can withdraw consent at any time by turning off a permission in iPhone Settings, stopping a feature, or deleting the app. Some features won't work without the data they need (for example, navigation needs location).
Who we share data with (service providers)
We share data only with service providers that help run RigMap, under contracts or terms that limit how they use it. By category:
- Cloud hosting and database providers — run our servers and store reports, Co-Pilot sessions and saved cameras.
- Map, traffic, road-condition and search data providers — draw the map, return place searches, and provide traffic and road data for your route.
- Weather data providers — return forecasts and alerts for points on the map and your route.
- Government transportation agencies — traffic-camera images and video load directly from their servers, which see your IP address.
- Job boards and public carrier-safety records — through our servers, for job and carrier searches.
- Apple — app distribution, speech recognition and notifications.
The map's built-in attribution button lets you see the map provider's credits and opt out of its anonymous usage statistics.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect people's safety, or as part of a sale or merger of the business (under this policy). A current list of our service providers is available on request at support@rigmap.ca.
We do not sell personal information and do not "share" it for cross-context behavioural advertising (as those words are used in California law).
Where data is processed
Our servers are in Germany, and our service providers may process data in the United States, Canada, Europe and other countries. Those countries' laws may differ from yours. Québec residents: we assess the protection given before transferring personal information outside Québec.
How long we keep data
- On your phone: until you delete it or the app.
- Route and search requests: our servers keep short technical logs (normally no more than 30 days) to keep the service running and fix problems. [OWNER TO CONFIRM the server log retention period.]
- Reports: see "Reports you choose to send" above.
- Co-Pilot: location is removed when sharing stops; session records are deleted after [OWNER TO CONFIRM, e.g. 30 days].
- AI requests: our servers keep only usage counts and short technical logs. [OWNER TO CONFIRM: the AI server does not store questions or pictures.]
- Usage count: kept as daily totals.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you can ask to access, correct or delete your personal information, to know how it was used and shared, to withdraw consent, and to receive it in a portable format (Québec). You can also complain to a privacy regulator (for example the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec). We won't treat you differently for using your rights.
Because RigMap has no accounts, the easiest way to delete what's on your phone is to delete the app. To ask about information on our servers (such as a report you sent), email support@rigmap.ca with the approximate time and place, and we will reply within 30 days.
Children
RigMap is made for professional drivers and is not intended for anyone under 18. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 16 (including under 13 as defined by the US COPPA). If you believe a child has used RigMap, contact us and we will delete their information.
Security
We use access controls on our servers and cloud database, keep service keys on our servers rather than in the app, and limit what each part of the system can read. No system is perfectly secure. [OWNER/LAWYER NOTE: some connections between the app and RigMap's servers do not yet use HTTPS encryption; see policy notes.] If a breach creates a real risk of significant harm, we will notify you and the regulators as the law requires.
This website
rigmap.co doesn't use cookies, analytics or ad trackers. Web fonts load from a font provider, which receives your IP address. Your light/dark choice is saved in your own browser. The contact form opens your email app; nothing is sent until you send the email.
Changes
We'll update this policy when our practices change and change the version and date at the top. If a change is significant, the app will ask you to agree again.
